Ms. copy--transcribed from dictation by an anonymous copyist before 1820, probably between 1817 and 1818, and circulated clandestinely among Bonapartist circles--of a defense of Napoleon's character, motives, and actions, originally composed by the Genevan Jacob-Frédéric Lullin de Châteauvieux during the winter of 1816-1817.
